Tenkawa / Totsukawa Travel Guide

Tenkawa/ Totsukawa is a region located in the southern part of Nara prefecture.  Besides the city of Gojo, it includes the villages of Tenkawa and Totsukawa in the county of Yoshino.

The area is rich in nature and there are the Mitarai Valley, where the paths are well maintained, and the Dorogawa Springs, gushing with delicious groundwater, and the Totsukawa Hot Spring, where you can enjoy a tour of the baths. Besides that, we recommend Mt. Odaigahara where you can enjoy real mountain climbing and the Kumano Kodo Kohechi Route (Hatenashi Toge Pass), part of the World Heritage designated pilgrimage route.

It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area.  While there are places accessible by conventional railway like the Kintetsu Yoshino line or by bus, bus times are limited so a car is useful for excursions.  It takes between 2 hours and 2 hours and 30 minutes by car to get to Tenkawamura from the cities of Osaka or Nara.
