Kushimoto / Nachi Travel Guide

Kushimoto/ Nachi is a region located in the southern part of Wakayama prefecture.  It includes the city of Shingu and the county of Higashimuro.

For sightseeing, there is Kumano-Hayatama-taisha Shrine, the goal of the Kumano Kodo Iseji Route, registered as a World Heritage Site.  Starting with Kumano-Hayatama-taisha Shrine, there are many spots related to Kumano Kodo, such as the Kumano-Nachi-taisha Shrine, Kamikura-jinja Shrine, Nachi Falls, Nachisan Seiganto-ji Temple etc. In addition, the area is a place where fishing is popular, and the Katsuura Fish market lands the most tuna is Japan and you can watch the bidding. There is also a shop selling processed fish products to take home and a foot bath so please come and enjoy the fresh seafood.

It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area.  The nearest airport is Nanki Shirahama Airport and the flight from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport is about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
