Hagi Travel Guide

Hagi is an area located in the northwestern part of Yamaguchi prefecture.  In addition to the city of Hagi, it includes the city of Nagato and the county of Abu.

Hagi has the history of a prosperous castle town, and there are still old townscapes in Hagi Castle Town.  This is also the place known as where the philosopher Yoshida Shoin opened private schools, so for people interested in his life, we recommend related sites like Shokason-juku school, Shoin-jinja Shrine, Yoshida Shoin Former Residence, Yoshida Shoin History Museum etc.

Motonosumi Inari Jinja Shrine in Nagato city is a spectacular spot chosen by the US media as one of Japan's 31 most beautiful places. In addition, Nagato is working to promote local "Yakitori" grilled chicken skewers, and production of chicken brands such as "Choshu Dori" and "Choshu Aka Dori" is also thriving. When you visit Nagato, please try this local specialty.

It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area but there are many spots within walking distance of the station.   The nearest airports are Yamaguchi Ube Airport and Hagi-Iwami Airport.  You can get from the airport to the city of Hagi in about 1 hour and 15 minutes by taxi.  From Tokyo, it takes about 3 hours.
